Genes are instructions for life.  They are lengths of deoxyribose nucleic acid – DNA – that are translated into proteins.  Copies are kept in every cell where they regulate all activity.  By interacting both with the other genes in the same organism and with the environment, genes create a ‘phenotype’: the living expression of DNA code.
